Theme
I think this book has two themes. One theme is don't let anyone get to you. For example, Zach locked Cap in the janitor's closet and Cap was perfectly calm. In fact, Cap started to meditate in the closet. Zach was trying to break Cap and make him go crazy, but Cap was just letting it role off his back until someone came to let him out.
Another theme in this story is how important it is to be open to change, because change can bring good things. Cap experienced a lot of change by leaving Garland and attending C Avg Middle School. Cap was able to experience social interaction with the real world. In the end, Rain and he both realized that living outside Garland is the best life for him.
